Packaging power: how Cheshire’s Packaging One sealed a £4m export deal with UKEF backing
At Packaging One, we’ve always believed that innovative products deserve a global audience.

Over the last few years, demand for our patented MediaWrap® packaging solution has continued to grow, with customers across North America, Europe, the Middle East and East Asia relying on us to protect high-value technology products throughout the supply chain.

As a family-run business based in Middlewich, we’re proud of how far we’ve come. But like many growing manufacturers, our biggest challenge wasn’t demand, it was managing the cash flow needed to support that growth.

Turning opportunity into growth

Around two years ago, we secured a major export contract with one of the world’s largest technology companies. It was a significant milestone for the business and a huge opportunity for future growth.

However, fulfilling large international orders comes with its own challenges. We needed to pay suppliers and fund production well before receiving payment from overseas customers, creating a gap that can be difficult for any growing business to manage.

That’s where support from UK Export Finance (UKEF) and NatWest made a real difference. Through UKEF’s General Export Facility, NatWest was able to provide a £700,000 loan that gave us the working capital needed to continue fulfilling orders confidently and efficiently.

The impact one year later

Twelve months on from securing that support, we’re seeing the benefits across the business.

The funding has helped us continue delivering major international orders while expanding our presence in key export markets. It has also enabled us to invest in our operations and create new opportunities closer to home.

Over the past year, we’ve: 

  • Expanded further into international markets across North America, Europe, the Middle East and East Asia
  • Created more than 50 new jobs at our Middlewich headquarters
  • Continued to increase production capacity to meet growing demand
  • Strengthened our position as a global supplier of specialist packaging solutions

Most importantly, we’ve been able to focus on growth rather than worrying about short-term cash flow pressures.

Looking ahead

International demand for our solutions continues to grow and we’re excited about what comes next. As Packaging One, we’ve always believed that packaging is without boundaries. Whether we’re developing patented products such as MediaWrap®, creating bespoke packaging solutions or helping customers reduce costs and improve efficiency, innovation remains at the heart of everything we do.
